Dr. Maria Benefield provides options for straightening crooked teeth with convenient, invisible braces. Teen and adult patients who need mild to moderate orthodontic treatment can achieve lasting results with either Invisalign® or Six Month Smiles clear braces, and enjoy a range of benefits when compared to traditional metal braces.
Why Straighten Crooked Teeth?
Although crooked and misaligned teeth are considered to be a cosmetic issue, straightening teeth also benefits overall dental health and reduces the risk of tooth decay, gum disease and complex bite problems down the road. Crooked teeth are often difficult to clean and floss effectively and can affect the fit of the bite.
Treatment with invisible braces to realign the teeth will not only enhance your natural smile, but provide a healthy, comfortable smile. Dr. Benefield will meet with you to discuss your personal concerns, cosmetic goals and perform a thorough exam before recommending the treatment option best suited to your needs.
Invisalign: How Does It Work?
Your treatment process begins with a consultation to determine if Invisalign is right for you and to create your personalized treatment plan. Dr. Benefield will take impressions of your teeth and send them to the Invisalign laboratory to have a series of custom, clear aligners made for your teeth.
Most patients will receive several sets of trays, each pair is worn for about two weeks to gradually reposition the teeth. The length of treatment depends on your condition as well as your goals. Generally speaking, treatment takes 6 to 9 months, but some patients may achieve the results they want in as few as 3 or 4 months.
Your final aligner is a retainer that will serve to maintain your new, straighter smile. Routine dental visits with Dr. Benefield are also an important part of keeping your new smile healthy and functional.
Benefits of Invisalign Treatment
When compared to traditional metal braces, Invisalign offers several key benefits for patients:
- Removable retainers allow for efficient tooth brushing, flossing and routine dental care. They can also be removed for eating- no dietary restrictions
- Clear, comfortable retainers minimize irritation of the gums and soft tissues of the mouth
- Treatment is faster and more discreet than traditional metal braces
Six Month Smiles: Is It Right For You?
Dr. Benefield will thoroughly evaluate your oral health and discuss your concerns and goals before recommending treatment with Six Month Smiles. Patients who desire to correct misaligned or spaced teeth with no need for bite correction are good candidates for this type of orthodontic treatment.
Treatment time is generally about 6 months and the clear brackets are both discreet and comfortable.
